I hate the term SEO
I see so many website designers claiming they know SEO but really they just install Yoast and that’s it….. Truth is this term (SEO) is used irresponsibly like its something you can install or just a quick one-off task to complete. To be frank, it drives me a bit crazy because there are so many facets to SEO. It isn’t something you do. It is an on-going process that takes time, patience and effort.
That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try your best to optimize for search but you should make it a regular part of your marketing plan.
But in this post, I want to focus on local SEO.
What’s the difference between regular SEO vs Local SEO?
In the search engine world, everything is a competition. Everyone is trying to rank. With “regular SEO” you are trying to rank with competition nationwide. With local SEO you are only trying to rank within a region. Which is much easier compared to the nationwide competition. Local SEO is relevant to businesses with a physical location or service industries that serve a particular region.
If you type in “carpet cleaning Pittsburgh or carpet cleaning near me” this is local Pittsburgh SEO ranking at foot.
Google uses different factors to decide why a business should rank on the first page of local results
Some of these factors are
- Backlinks
- Content
- Keywords
- Google Maps
- Google My Business Listings
- Social presence
- People visiting your business physical
- Reviews
- and much more…
